A plug for agents
Apple is bringing MCP to Keynote, Pages and Numbers, so AI agents can read and edit your documents directly.
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is a plug for AI: one standard way for an agent to read and operate a program. Anthropic released it in late 2024, and since December 2025 it has been part of the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation.
Apple announced yesterday that Keynote, Pages and Numbers are getting that plug. Outside agents and tools can read and edit content in them and carry out automated actions, directly in the document. This requires macOS 27 or later. Apple is also adding its own assistant, based on models from Apple and OpenAI: in beta, in US English and only for Creator Studio subscribers.
This means an agent can turn a table from Numbers into a presentation in Keynote without anyone clicking. What Apple does not explain in the announcement is how document data is handled when a request goes to OpenAI.
Your file becomes a workspace you share, with your own agent or with someone else's. Who will have changed what in it, and will you still be able to see that?
